2020 ELECTION PETITION: SC DISMISSES PETITION; UPHOLDS EC’s DECLARATION

The Supreme Court of Ghana has today, Thursday March 4, 2021, delivered its final judgement on the 2020 Presidential election petition after over a month of legal tussle.

In a unanimous decision, the 7-member jury threw out the case of the Petitioner stating that the court had no reason to order a re-run of the election.

A lenthy explanation read out by Justice Anin Yeboah, the Chief Justice, revealed that, in the jury’s opinion, the Petitioner’s case had no merit, that the Petitioner could not prove the allegation of vote padding amongst others.

The decision of the apex court brings finality to the 2020 Presidential election dispute and upholds as valid the results declared on December 9, 2020 by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Jean Adukwei Mensah, that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo won the December 7 election.
