Akuapem Poloo given a 90-day jail term

Actress and social media personality, Akuapem Poloo born Rosemond Brown, has been sentenced to jail for 90 days following her conviction on charges of publication of obscene material and domestic violence.

She was found guilty of posting a nude photo of herself and her seven-year-old son on June 30, 2020, which was his birthday.

She pleaded guilty to all three charges on Wednesday April 14 and as a results was convicted by an Accra Circuit Court presided by Judge Christina Cann.

Her sentence was handed to her on Friday April 16 2021. Her lawyers plan to appeal the sentence.

According to the Judge who bemoaned the the spate of nudity on social media, this punishment should serve as a warning to other social media users.

Mr. Bright Appiah, Director of Child’s Right International Ghana was the complainant in the case.

He initially petitioned the Ghana Police Service after the said picture went viral on social media. The Police then referred the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).
