Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Brazilian imports Fabio Gama dos Santos and Vinicius Silva De Morais, yesterday, registered their names on the scoresheet as the Porcupine Warriors won by 4-0.
Kotoko opened the scoring at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium – their new adopted home venue for the second round – through an Abdul Ganiyu long range strike following a quickly taken free-kick pass from Gama in the early minutes (12′) of the game.
Eventual Man of the Match, Fabio Gama, followed his assist with a Kotoko’s second (which is also his second in the league) on the 42nd minute when he shot into the back of the net from inside the penalty box in a game the Kumasi based side completely dominated. Francis Andy Kumi got the third goal (63′) of the day whilst substitute Michael Vinicius completed the demolition exercise from a rebound, announcing his presence in the Ghana League with a debut goal (82′).
The midweek game was an outstanding first round fixture from match day 16 which was rained off at the Accra Sports Stadium in February.
The win sends the 24 time Ghanaian league champions to third place on 31 points, behind leaders Accra Great Olympics (33) and Karela United (32) respectively.
Archrivals Hearts of Oak have dropped to fourth place on 30 points.
The scoreline is Kotoko’s biggest win in the league so far.
New Porcupine Warriors’ Portuguese head coach Mariano Barreto said in a post match interviewed that his side should have won by 8 or 9 goals instead of 4.
The Club posted an interesting tweet after the game.
A Ghanaian 🇬🇭 delight with Brazilian 🇧🇷 touches prepared by a Portuguese 🇵🇹 chef. GREAT MEAL of football for a Wednesday afternoon!! Thanks everyone for your time and support.”
Kotoko will host Brekum Chelsea at the Len Clay Stadium in Match Day 19.
