Veteran journalist Cameron Duodu has explained how the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s extempore address at an illegal mining (galamsey) dialogue in Kumasi last week exposed perpetrators and why it was very significant.
According to him, what the Asantehene’s extempore remark before he began delivering his main speech was far more important than the prepared speech.
He recently authored an article, in which he questioned the ‘news values’ of some journalists because the most significant part of the speech did not get prominence in the media.
He indicated that had it not been for the video from the event which was circulated, much would not have been heard by the public on the people who are behind galamsey.
Otumfuo said many of the people at the conference – about 30 percent, knew the people behind illegal mining but they were not doing anything to stop it.
Besides, he also did not shy away from exposing two government officials who had attempted earlier to persuade him to stick to the script prepared for him.
