Declare 2020 presidential election results as “null and void” – Mahama asks Supreme Court

The 2020 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has petitioned the Supreme Court of Ghana to declare the results for the Dec 7 presidential polls as null and void.

The results as declared by Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana recorded the incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo as the winner, polling 6,730,413 (51.59%) of the total votes cast, whiles John Mahama polled 6, 214,889 (47.36%) of the total votes cast.

Lawyers of NDC on behalf of John Mahama on Wednesday December 30 petitioned the apex court, stating that the results were manipulated to favour the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). They claim the results do not reflect the true will of the people of Ghana.

The petition has finally come after nearly two weeks of sustained protests across the country by NDC supporters.
