The Ministry of Tourism has overturned a directive issued by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) which instructed the hospitality industry to resume operations.

On Wednesday May 13, GTA released a statement which instructed restaurants, hotels, drinking bars and other such facilities to resume operations while ensuring that social distancing protocols were strictly adhered to.

However, the Ministry of Tourism released a statement hours later asking the public to disregard the earlier statement by the GTA and emphasizing that their new statement superseded that of GTA.

The statement signed by the sector minister, Barbara Oteng-Gyasi said “drinking bars remain closed… the public is to note that this circular supersedes the one issued by the regulator.”
