According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), over 200,000 people have been vaccinated so far in the first week of the National Vaccination Programme in Ghana.
Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said in a press briefing on Monday, March 9, that the service database has 220,252 on record as having been vaccinated.
However, this figure is expected to rise as the database is updated.
He explained that the “Greater Accra alone has vaccinated 128,088 but they have about 58,000 vaccinated yet to be entered.”
46,780 persons were vaccinated on March 6 alone, the biggest number for vaccination in a single day recorded so far.
In the Ashanti Region, 69,325 persons have been vaccinated in the Greater Kumasi area.
Ghana being the first recipient of COVID-19 vaccine doses distributed by COVAX, has received 600,000 doses and is expecting to take delivery of 2 million AstraZeneca Vaccines by the end of May 2021.
