President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his gratitude to the people of the Ashanti Region for helping him win the 2020 December polls to remain in office for a second term.
The President who spoke in Twi on the first day of a four-day tour of the region, said: ‘had it not been for your votes and support, I don’t think I would have won the election’.
The Ashanti Region gave the President his highest votes at the 2020 election with more than 1.7 million votes.
He said he has always known the region to be the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) stronghold ‘but the last election was impressive’.
He added that he had visited the region to ensure that the projects he promised the people were executed.
The Asantehene, who the President had visited at the Manhyia Palace, advised the President that despite the challenge globally, “Work hard, kill yourself to prove to the people that the promises you gave during the election campaign were not lies.”
The Asantehene who also spoke in Twi added he believed in the President to deliver because, at his age, he did not need material wealth.
He told the President that despite criticism, the he should remain focused and live up to the billing.
