Tanzania President Magufuli is dead; aged 61

The president of the Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli has passed away at the age of 61.

The “Bulldozer” as he was commonly known is suspected to have died from a possible COVID-19 infection.

Until his death, the late president, was a politician and the fifth President of the Republic of Tanzania, assuming the high office in 2015.

Magufuli also served in the Cabinet of Tanzania as Deputy Minister of Works from 1995 to 2000, Minister of Works from 2000 to 2006, Minister of Lands and Human Settlement from 2006 to 2008, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries from 2008 to 2010, and as Minister of Works for a second time from 2010 to 2015.

According to reports, he passed away on Wednesday, March l7.

Yoweri K. Museveni: I have, with great sadness, learnt of the death of His Excellency John Pombe Magufuli. He was a pragmatic leader who believed in and worked for the economic empowerment of East Africans. We join Tanzania in mourning the passing of a great son of Africa. May his soul rest in peace.
